Project Overview

Construction of a 5-storey u-shaped hospital building, including service buildings, a landscaped courtyard, various interior fit-outworks, MEP services, parking facilities and other associated external works.

GPZ had initially started the building in 1995 as a hotel, under a different contract, Client and Consultant, but the project was placed on hold by the Client. In 2000, under a new Client (Estate Company for Health Services) and Consultant (MACE), the building resumed as a new project to convert the existing but incomplete hotel into a medical facility.

The hospital contains 76 single patient rooms, 4 VIP rooms, 4 operating theatres, 4 delivery rooms, MRI rooms, dental clinics, a chemical laboratory, an endoscopy centre, a medical library, nurse stations, 3 classrooms, a cafeteria and various other out-patient clinics.

The building structure consists of a concrete frame and hollow-core slabs, precast concrete panels as external walls, with block and plasterboard partitions internally. The building features various curved and domed glazed curtain wall systems. Suspended ceilings are installed throughout. Floors are covered mainly with vinyl sheet and some areas with marble. Walls are mainly painted and tiled in wet areas.

The project also involved the construction of several extensions, including the enlargement of the basement and its conversion from a car park to spaces for office/hospital occupancy. The basement level extends below groundwater levels and required substantial dewatering works.

Mechanical, electrical and building services, such as BMS, HVAC, plumbing, drainage, lighting, fire protection-detection systems, medical gas etc., were under GPZ’s scope and executed by its MEP Division. A total of 7 lifts, including 2 bed lifts, 2 service lifts and 3 patient lifts, were installed in the facility.
