Project Overview
Construction of a Headquarters Complex for Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) which was one of the largest and most prestigious building complexes built in Bahrain at the time. The complex contains a Headquarters Building, a Telephone Engineering Centre (TEC), a Sports and Social Club, an External Training Area and numerous other support buildings. The contract included all interior fit-out works, MEP services installations and all external works such as covered car parks, roads, boundary walls, gates, and soft and hard landscaping.
Building construction is generally of structural steel frames and either precast or in situ concrete upper floor and roof slabs, together with precast concrete wall cladding. Elsewhere, external walls are of rendered blockwork or natural stone cladding.Mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations, interior fit-out works, bespoke architectural elements including bespoke joinery, as well as the supply, fabrication (including design of connections) and erection of 1200 tonnes of structural steel, were all undertaken by GPZ’s specialised divisions.
The 2-storey Headquarters Building housing the Administration Centre incorporates a variety of modern and traditional Islamic features and building elements including precast concrete cladding, double-glazed windows with timber masharabiyas, colour-coated aluminium frames, carved timber doors, skylights, marble flooring and high quality finishes throughout. The TelephoneEngineering Centre, which provides the operational nucleus of the organisation, includes an Administration Building, AerialErector’s Workshops, a Motor Transport Workshop (garage, petrol station, offices and stores), an Assembly Building, a WorkshopBuilding, a Stores Building, and external Stores in a fenced storage area. The Sports and Social Club facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, sports pitches, a 2-storey building housing games rooms, squash courts, offices, a restaurant and a single storey lounge area.
