Conversion of Blue Elephant Restaurant into Bushido, a Japanese Restaurant part of the Buddha-Bar Network.
Conversion of the existing Blue Elephant Restaurant, with a built-up area of 2,200m2, into Bushido, a Japanese Restaurant and Lounge which is part of the Buddha-Bar Network. The project scope consisted of demolition works, the construction of a new upgraded structure for the main Dining Hall, the complete interior fit-out works, extensive façade alterations, and all MEP works. High-specification quality finishes, detailed bespoke loose and fixed furniture as well as extensively customised materials, ironmongery, chandeliers, wall lights and fabrics have been installed throughout. All finishing materials, furniture, aluminium and glazing, plumbing and drainage equipment, sanitary ware, fittings and accessories were procured and installed by GPZ’s specialised divisions.
The restaurant’s reception lobby is accessed through a main entrance colonnade and roof structure, and features a reception counter, internally lit pedestals with Samurai uniforms, built-in displays with Bushido and Buddha Bar memorabilia and an elaborate staircase to the first floor. A wide corridor with additional built-in displays leads to a meeting room with a glass floor over the lagoon, a live cooking Teppanyiaki dining area and a lounge bar for private parties. The new main Dining Hall has a combined ground and first floor forming an impressive atrium covered by an electrically operated sliding roof which provides an“open to the sky” area of 8 by 12 metres. A glazed central display with authentic Samurai warrior uniforms for the full height of the atrium and a Y-shaped ceremonial staircase leading up to the DJ booth and first floor form important features. The north and east elevations have double-glazed curtain walls with sliding/folding glazed doors accessing a decked outdoor dining area(250m2), the lagoon and a bridge leading to a small island. The first floor accommodates a lounge, the main bar and covered balcony area.
The main kitchen and other services rooms were renovated to include new cold rooms, staff changing areas, a pastry area and other support facilities. New kitchen equipment and accessories were installed along with a dumbwaiter lift leading to the first floor bar. All MEP services installations were carried out by GPZ’s MEP Division, including a specialist RGB fully adjustable lighting system connected to the DJ booth and music system, fire-fighting and fire alarm systems, lightning protection, MATV, CCTV etc.The air conditioning system was designed, installed, tested and commissioned by GPZ, and included a chilled water system for the first floor areas as well as a VRF system to the ground floor areas. External works involved the formation of a carpark for 120vehicles, extensive Japanese-style landscaping, a new irrigation system, new waterproof membranes, a new aeration system and fresh water with Koi fish to the lagoon.
